The word "brandy" is derived from the Dutch "brandewijn", which literally means burnt wine. It is an alcoholic beverage prepared by the distillation of wine from grapes originating in the south of France and Spain and then aged in oak barrels. The maturation time affects the quality of the brandy, the best matured for several years.
